Privacy notice
Last updated 2026-10-29. Local repository data and website purchase data are handled separately.
Who is responsible
GitPlane is provided by The Web & Social LTD, registered in England and Wales, company number 12664285. We are responsible for the personal information we process through this website, direct purchases and support. Contact info@gitplane.co.uk about privacy or your information.
Your repositories stay on your device
The current GitPlane desktop app and locally running browser workspace discover and inspect Git repositories on your computer. Paths, remote URLs, branches, commit details, working-tree status, scan locations and scan history are stored in local SQLite. The scanner does not upload your source code or repository inventory to us, Stripe or AWS.
You choose scan locations. Git may read working-tree files when determining their status. GitPlane does not index source-code contents or fetch, pull, push, commit, switch branches or delete repositories during inspection. The local browser workspace requires a server on the same computer; this public website cannot scan your computer.
We do not receive your local index. You control its retention on your device. Desktop and local browser indexes are separate by default. Removing a scan location does not necessarily remove previously discovered repository records.
Website, purchase and support information
Hosting and security services may process your IP address, request time, requested URL, browser/device information and errors to serve and protect the website. We have not added advertising trackers, third-party marketing analytics or repository-data analytics.
When direct checkout is enabled, Stripe collects the information needed to process your payment. We receive purchase references, confirmed email, amount, currency and payment/refund status. Our delivery service stores the order reference, email, payment reference, delivery status and the purchased installer version. We do not store your full card number or card security code.
If you email support, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send. Please omit source code, credentials, private download links and sensitive repository details unless they are genuinely needed. Purchases through the Mac App Store are processed by Apple under its own terms and privacy policy.
Why we use personal information
We use purchase and delivery information to perform our contract with you, provide access to your purchased installer and respond to purchase-related support. If you do not provide a working checkout email, we cannot deliver a direct purchase.
We use information where necessary to meet accounting, tax and other legal obligations. We rely on legitimate interests to protect the website, prevent fraud, investigate errors and answer general enquiries. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests by contacting info@gitplane.co.uk.
We do not sell your personal information or use your repository inventory for advertising. We do not use your local code or metadata to train AI systems. Automated payment checks control download eligibility; contact us if a purchase is incorrectly denied.
Service providers and international processing
We use AWS for website infrastructure and, when enabled, order storage, transactional email and private installer delivery. The configured commerce region is London (eu-west-2). Stripe processes direct payments. Your email provider receives delivery messages, and authorised personnel may access information when needed for support or administration.
Global payment providers, hosting networks and their subprocessors may process information outside the UK. Provider arrangements and applicable UK transfer safeguards govern those transfers. Contact us for details of the arrangements relevant to your information. We do not claim that all payment or website data stays exclusively in the UK.
Opening a remote repository in your system browser visits that provider directly and is subject to its privacy policy. A website purchase does not authorise access to your local Git repositories.
Retention and security
We keep purchase and delivery records while needed to provide access to the purchased installer, deal with support, disputes or refunds, and meet applicable accounting and legal requirements. Support correspondence is retained while needed to resolve the enquiry and related issues. Security logs are retained according to operational and security needs. We review retention against those purposes rather than promising an automatic deletion period that has not been implemented.
Orders and installers use restricted cloud access. Download requests require a private purchase capability, and issued installer URLs expire shortly afterwards. Treat your purchase email and its private link as confidential. Local repository information remains subject to your computer’s security and backups.
Cookies, preferences and future features
The website stores your light/dark theme preference in local storage. We do not use this preference to identify you across websites. Stripe and Apple may use their own cookies or similar technologies on their services. Your browser can clear local storage.
Cloud synchronisation, Teams, the Chrome extension and Pro monitoring are future plans, not current data flows. We will explain any materially different processing before introducing it; the current app does not silently synchronise your repository inventory.
Your rights and contact
Depending on the circumstances, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal information, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Some records may need to be retained for legal obligations or claims. If a future optional feature relies on consent, you can withdraw that consent.
Email info@gitplane.co.uk to exercise a right or raise a concern. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity. We cannot retrieve a local repository index that has never been sent to us. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/.
We will update this notice when our processing changes. The version date appears at the top of this page.
